Philosophy
La Que Sabe offers a holistic approach to increase the connection
between the mind and the body. We work together to change the
problematic behaviors while at the same time increasing one's awareness of the
underlying issues. Providing unique, customized programs designed to
alleviate symptoms, gain an understanding of how the symptoms help to manage
feelings, and re-establish a healthy relationship with the body and improve
relationships.
Treatment of the whole person: Mind, Body, & Soul.
Eating Disorders Treatment
La Que Sabe provides systemic intervention through stabilization
of the eating disorder behaviors (binging , purging, and restricting), collaborative
medical intervention, and resolution of underlying etiology. Patients in
the program generally experience up to an 80 percent reduction in symptoms
during the first month of treatment.
Eating disorders and the related issues of poor body image and
low self esteem are relational issues. We are constantly in relationship
with one's self, family, friends, co-workers, culture, the environment, etc. and
we create meaning about who we are and the world around us through thee relationships.
The effects of these relationships shape how we think and feel about
ourselves. The goal of treatment is to increase the positive life giving effect
of relationships and thereby help patients identify who one truly is an d what
is important while developing a more positive relationship with one's self.
Nutrition
Philosophy
La Que Sabe
maintains a non-diet philosophy of nutrition.
This means that all foods are part of life and can be incorporated into a
well-balanced, healthful way of eating. While
at La Que Sabe participants learn how to listen to the feedback one’s body
provides. This is accomplished
through experimenting with a wide variety of foods and challenging eating
disordered rules about food. We
believe in eating when one is hungry and stopping when one is full and that this
process takes time and re-connection with one’s body to accomplish.
Through moving past fears and rules about food we can stabilize the
eating behaviors and work on the underlying issues.
Often participants in our programs notice changes in levels of depression
and anxiety as nutritional stability is restored.
Patients are referred to a dietician, which provides an opportunity to
develop a meal plan and receive feedback about nutritional progress.
Physical Activity
Physical activity
is an important part of living an active and healthful life.
Physical activity is based on reconnection with the body in a gentile and
nurturing way. Thus, we will work
with your dietician and physician to ensure the physical activity promotes an
active lifestyle while at the same time maintaining connection with ones
mind-body-soul.
Evaluation
The evaluation
process helps us to gather information about each participant’s physical and
psychological processes, including the way one responds to stress and
relationships. The basis for this
intensive evaluation process is to help gain insight into the specific types of
treatments that may be most helpful. We
are then able to individualize the treatment plan so that each participant
receives the most beneficial treatment possible.
